The alkekengi , also known as Lantern Flower or Chinese Lantern, is a perennial plant belonging to the Solanaceae family. It is native to Asia, but is also widespread in Europe.
The plant has lanceolate leaves and white flowers. The fruits, which ripen in autumn, are spherical berries, enclosed in a lantern-shaped casing that climb the branches.
